Soledad Strikes Again

How many times will Soledad O’Brien be the messenger of the harsh reality of my life? If it wasn’t for Big Red Cotton I wouldn’t have known this was coming on tonight. I blame this on her.

I love Soledad but she’s playing with my emotions. It took me awhile to get over her Black in America special. This time she chose a more specific way to attack my self esteem. Tonight I watched One Crime at a Time on CNN about crime and corruption in New Orleans. I am now scared to go outside. It’s just what we needed for an economy that depends on tourism to survive. I am not upset with Soledad. She’s just doing her job. I am upset with my city. We just can't get it together. Even though the CNN special was one sided and didn’t acknowledge the numerous positive things going on, nothing that was reported was a lie or over exaggerated. The real question for me is how long before we ask her to come back to report on how much things have changed for the better.

A brother can dream.

A very depressing watch. I'm not very happy with the story as told. I think she got it terribly wrong. To talk about corruption and focus on who gets a car (versus, say, the crime cameras) was just dumb.

Giving Nagin and Reilly a pass was worse that dumb, it was to miss the fundamental story. It was J-school level researching and writing, and I give her a C at best over all. An intern using Google could have done a better job of getting the core of the story right.

I could bear seeing that harsh reality on national TV on a Saturday night (it repeats Sunday) if the real bad actors post-K were now afraid to show their faces outside the city for shame, but they wont be.

She really flubbed it.

Peace,

I agree with Mark. This special was heavy-handed and terrible subjective. 'Just doing her job' doesn't excuse her from her responsibility as a credible journalist. Covering just one part of the story is inexcusable.

I caught the last half by accident. Had no idea it was on. The reality is harsh, but even so, I still think she let most of the people she interviewed off the hook, just accepting what they said. Weak reporting imho.

Awww brother, you KNOW they won't do a story on the positive things that go on in the city b/c they want to portray New Orleans as a cesspool of corruption and negativity. Anything positive wouldn't be news-worthy.

Hey there!

There has been a deliberate strategy to demonize the people who represent New Orleans in order to EXONERATE America for abandoning the city with such cruelty and callousness.

There is a very clear motive for presenting New Orleans in a negative light in order to cover up for FEMA's racist response.

Soledad is an employee...she does not control ANYTHING...she is assigned which stories she will have so I can't even hold her accountable for the stories her boss puts on her desk. We ALL have to report to somebody until we OWN our own thing.
